In a time of music where MCs are looking for the quick way to make a hot song, the story of 21-year old Chicago native Agitate (born Jonathan Velazquez) is one of very few exceptions. Signed at the young age of 15-years old to the Rip Em Up Records imprint, Agitate made a name for himself as one-half of the duo known as “Junior Squad”. With articulate, complex rhyme schemes, and an emotional delivery, Agitate was destined to garner respect from the hip hop community. When beginning high school, Agitate was quickly noticed amongst his peers for his ability to put words together, while expressing his true inner feelings. Shortly after, he befriended a fellow student, and artist named Daze, whom he joined forces with to form the duo known as “Junior Squad”. Junior Squad made an instant impact on the underground scene, appearing on the 2005 mixtape “Monsters of The midway”. Local success soon led to the release of their 2007 follow-up, the E.P. titled “R.U.R.eady?!” However, Junior Squad ran into a dilemma common amongst groups in the Hip Hop industry. Shortly after the release of their debut record, they decided to go separate ways to pursue their dreams as individual artists. After taking a break from music, Agitate returned to the lifestyle he once dedicated his life to. Without much support, he began to release individual tracks to obtain the status he so longed for. Individually, he developed an angry mindset, and began to express his frustrations thru his music. Soulful and strong, Agitate’s lyrics touch on everything from his upbringing in Chicago, to the poverty and hopelessness that every human can relate to. Currently, Agitate is working on the release of his debut project, an E.P. titled “The Summary”. The Rip Em Up Records artist is slated to release in the Summer of 2011.
