Since the reopening of the Central Library in 1993, the Library Foundation's award-winning ALOUD at Central Library series has provided the people of Los Angeles and beyond with over 1,000 lectures, readings, performances, and conversations featuring key figures in the arts and humanities, business, politics, and science. These dynamic programs, generally provided free of charge, are designed to stimulate conversation and provide a space for civic dialogue. Through audience Q&A, ALOUD inspires active participation, offering people a space to learn, to hear, and respect different points of view. ALOUD at Central Library makes its home in the beautiful and intimate Mark Taper Auditorium, a place where issues ranging from the topical to the enduring are addressed; where ideas are exchanged; and where outstanding thinkers and artists from a wide variety of disciplines can be heard in conversation with local authors, journalists, academics and experts in their field. ALOUD is curated by Louise Steinman, author and Director of Cultural Programs for the Library Foundation of Los Angeles.

Aloud is a four-piece rock n’ roll band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band is co-fronted by Henry Beguiristain (lead vocals/guitars) and Jen de la Osa (lead vocals/guitars), with Frank Hegyi (drums/percussion), and Charles Murphy (bass/backing vocal). Founded in a small one-bedroom republic in Boston’s Fenway area by de la Osa and Beguiristain, Aloud has gone on to independently release three albums and crisscross the U.S. In 2010, Aloud embarked on a massive coast-to-coast tour in support of their third album, the critically acclaimed Exile. The band performed close to 100 shows in their four months on the road. The Boston Phoenix nominated Aloud for “Best Indie/Powerpop Act” in 2012. In the same year, the Deli Magazine listed Aloud as one of the “Best Emerging Bands” in their SXSW issue. Aloud will release their new album, It’s Got to Be Now, made with producers Charles Newman and Benny Grotto on April 1, 2014.
