Get Healthy With These Expert Vitamin Tips Eating right is integral towards your health. You also know that keeping in good shape through proper exercise is extremely important. Vitamin D protects your bones and keeps them from becoming brittle. Do not use tea or coffee to wash down your vitamins and minerals. These beverages may inhibit the absorption of certain minerals. Tea has been proven to decrease the amount of iron the body absorbs. While coffee has not been shown to have the same effects, it would be best not to take any chances. From popcorn to dairy products, getting your riboflavin, or vitamin B2, is a snap. Being deficient in these vitamins can lead to lowered red blood cells and hemoglobin, scaly skin and cracked lips. In addition, vitamin B2 can help ward off cancer, anemia, cataracts and even carpal tunnel syndrome. You have worked hard to lose weight but you seem to have hit a wall with weight loss and burning fat. Try adding different vitamins and minerals to your low fat diet to break on through. Your body has probably consumed the vitamins and minerals stored in the body that aides in promoting weight loss and it simply needs more than you are consuming in your diet to jump start the old engine. When buying vitamins, always check the expiration date on the package before you buy them. Vitamins have a shelf life and do not last forever. Storage time, exposure to light and temperature can all effect the quality of vitamins and further reduce the expiration date. So make sure that you are buying quality vitamins that have not expired. If you notice that you have been feeling odd after taking particular vitamins and minerals, it would be a good idea for you to leave them alone. Many people believe that vitamins have no side effects, but this is not the truth. Instead of dealing with ill effects, you should look for another way to get what you need. Are you a woman of childbearing age? If so, you may be low in magnesium. In fact, 60 percent of women or more may be deficient in magnesium. Your best it is to talk to your doctor about having tests done to measure your levels, and if you are low, pick up a supplement. There are many prescription meds and over the counter meds that react adversely with vitamin supplements. There could be a life threatening interaction. When talking to your doctor about medications, let them know about any supplements you are taking. When buying over the counter medications, talk to the pharmacist to make sure there will not be any adverse effects. Not everyone absorbs vitamin B12 the same way, so you must be tested yearly to ensure you are getting what you need. For example, some people absorb B12 from supplements easily, while others don't and will need an injection instead. B12 is important for heart health, so ensure your levels are good! Steam your favorite vegetables, or eat them raw. Cooking takes the vitamins out of your foods. Steaming is the best way to cook vegetables. You can still get vitamins from flash frozen vegetables, but don't overcook. Minimize your alcohol intake. Alcohol is often toxic to vitamins. Vitamins can lose their effectiveness or become useless when confronted with alcohol. FDA guidelines call for no more than 21 units of alcohol for women and 14 for men each week. Stay within these boundaries to maximize the effects of your vitamin levels. If you are already on medications, be sure to talk to your doctor before you take any supplements. For example, if you are on heart prescriptions, taking calcium, magnesium or potassium could alter the affects of those drugs or cause side effects, but your doctor can tell you what you can take. Understand that you need to have vitamins in your diet. Vitamins are essential to a healthy body, mind, and life. They are necessary for regulating all of the chemical processes and reactions in your body. They also help release the energy from your food.
