I used to play lots of chess. Then I played lots of Magic The Gathering. Then I played lots of Fluxx. Then I played lots of Dominion. Now I play lots of co-ops. [b]I'm also an [person=10235]amateur game designer[/person]. Game design is my art form.[/b] I've got a website for [b][url=http://ceruleansgames.tripod.com]my game designs and player aids[/url][/b]. I've got thirty years worth of prototypes at hand, including a few that I want to get published. I generally don't add my own games to BGG. I don't think my games are *relevant* enough until somebody else is motivated to add them. I hereby give my official assent for any of my designs to be added as BGG entries (but don't upload my files, please). [b]What do I like in games?[/b] In no particular order: 1) Modular boards and random setups for greater replayability. 2) Economic, industrial, urban planning, or STEM themes. 3) Strong historical themes set between 1500 and the near future. Bonus points for the narrower 1750-1938 window. 4) Shorter games are better. I'd rather play four one-hour games than one four-hour game. 5) Games in small packages. 6) Game systems and interchangeable components. [b]What games turn me off?[/b] In no particular order: 1) Traitor mechanics. Deception is not a leisure activity; it is a human failing. 2) Memes... zombies, ninjas, Cthulhu, etc. 3) I have a hard time relating to dystopia, post-apocalyptic, fantasy, space opera, or the ancient world. 4) Any card game that uses "trick" or "trump" in the rules. My eyes just glaze over. 5) In general, the bigger the box, the lesser my interest. 6) Plastic minis and card sleeves.
