Our goal: To assist bands in accomplishing their personal goals such as touring, exposure, lager attendance events, radio play, marketing/advertising, recording/mixing/mastering, merchandise, website design and much more! Biography: Music relates to each and every one of us on many different levels, it is how a lot of us get by in day to day society. When you put a CD into your CD player, or play a song on the Internet, do you ever wonder how it got there, or where you heard about the artist or song for the very first time? There are many things that must be done just to get that CD into your possession or to get you to visit that website for noticeability of the art created, the music. One of the many job titles in the music industry is a Promoter. Promoters have a huge responsibility in working with local and national artists, not to mention sponsorships and so much more. This brings up the questions; What makes a good promoter? In fact, what is a promoter? What makes someone qualify for the title of a promoter? These are all questions I am about to answer with a short biography on a great person and current Promoter in the music industry today named Brandon Crawford. Brandon started in the music industry at a very early age, earlier than normal. He went to a concert featuring a national recording band called Hurt. They were playing at a small venue called The Real Bar on Brandon’s 16th birthday. He went to the show early to see the rest of the bands that were playing that night. A band by the name Evolocity played right before the band Brandon went to see. “After a nearly perfect performance, I saw that the band was being rushed off stage by some guy at the venue. They basically had to run the equipment from the stage to the loading van right after playing an intense set. I walked up to the band, and asked if they needed a hand with unloading the stage. I ended up helping them unload the stage, and that one time was the opportunity of getting involved into something I never thought I would do!” After the show was over, Brandon was asked if he would like to help the band at future shows. He had nothing to lose at that point after only living in Arizona for a year and still being in High School. He went on to help the band on several occasions in state and out of state for 2 years! Throughout his two years working for the band, his duties consisted of passing out flyers, selling merchandise, loading and unloading stages after live performances, organizing a “street team” for the band that included several people with specific duties that would help get the band recognition anywhere possible. Brandon ended up touring with the band between the age of 16 and 17 years old. What he would soon discover while on tour would eventually change his goals in life and send him on a path that would take him somewhere no one ever thought they would see him go. Touring is something bands and artists do in order to get recognition in places other than just their home state. Before a tour, the band or artist must first create a “buzz” in that city so that when they play a show there, there will already be a fan-base, Brandon helped create that “buzz”. He did so by online networking with people in “target markets” (other cities), getting them to listen to the bands music and help get others to listen as well. While touring cities such as Albuquerque New Mexico, Tucson Arizona, Hollywood California and more, Brandon questioned whether or not he should be a “Roadie” for a living. He had already graduated high school and was ready get more into the technical field of Music. Not only did he want to help the bands physically, he also wanted to learn how the music sounded so good on the CD’s and internet we listen to on a daily basis. He made the decision to leave the band on good terms and attended a college titled The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences. After graduating the recording college in April of 2008, Brandon went on to intern at a recording studio in Scottsdale Arizona called Minds Eye Digital. He interned there as an Engineers Assistant with duties including setting up microphones, organizing and cleaning the studio, and assisting the artists and Engineer in any way possible. He worked beside Recording Engineer Larry Elyea, formally national recording artist signed by Interscope Records. After about 6 months of interning in the studio, Brandon decided that Recording records and working in a studio was not in his sights as a career path, however it is just another trade he picked up along the way. With years of networking under Brandon’s belt, working with several different artists in all different types of music, he then decided to organize one concert for his 19th birthday. Without ever booking a show from the ground up, Brandon had no idea what he was about to accomplish! Most people do not understand how much time and organization one single concert takes to setup. First, there must be the funding for the event, venue availability, then artist availability and finally the promotion! Brandon took 3 months planning this single event with no intention to continue. Unfortunately for him, the show was not prepared by his 19th birthday, however he pressed forward and completed the organization of the event anyways. Brandon targeted specific sponsors that needed advertising for their businesses and could benefit from being a part of the event. Unlike most promoters first show, Brandon wanted something big, something that will shock everyone surrounding him. He booked the Venue of Scottsdale, one or Arizona’s largest music venues in one of the most expensive places in Arizona, Scottsdale Arizona. “I took a gamble, rented the Venue of Scottsdale without a single band booked! It was exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time, and no one thought I could pull it off” he said. The Venue of Scottsdale has a capacity of 1,200 people, Brandon definitely had his work cut out for him. After locking in 17 sponsors to fund the event, and 6 of Arizona’s top rock/alternative bands, the show was on a good path! After a nearly sold-out crowd at one of Arizona’s largest venues, people now knew exactly that Brandon was experienced and determined enough to do anything he wanted! “The day after my first show, I had over 40 messages on my phone, a ton of emails and missed calls from people that wanted to congratulate me on the success of my first gig and they were all asking when the next one was? It then got me thinking, if the fans want it and I have the artists and people that want to work with me, maybe, just maybe, I should do some more!” Brandon’s first show was June 6th, 2008, he continues to setup events to this day! He has progressed so much over the years, and it can only get better for him. He has worked with local and national recording artists, major businesses for sponsorships, and several venues around the valley in Arizona. He owns and runs his own Entertainment company called Condemned|Entertainment. Brandon currently has objectives and goals to accomplish in 2010 that are bigger than any year before including bigger Arizona concerts, charitable events, and tours! He is known as a Promoter here in Arizona, and promises to continue to create great events for the people who love music until the day he dies. What it takes to be a promoter is exactly what Brandon has; Communication skills, organization, and the determination to succeed. “It may be stressful, it may be expensive, but nothing can replace the feeling of making thousands of people happy every time and seeing those smiles on every one of their faces. Anyone can accomplish their goals in life, as long as they remain determined, they will succeed. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.”
