Hal Kennard was born in 1972 in Bransgore, Hampshire and attended Twynham Comprehensive School in Dorset before going on to study Business and Finance at Brockenhurst College. Hal joined Link Telecommunications, Australia and was responsible for managing one-hundred and twenty full-time employees. Hal was approached by David Jones to become the National Call Centre Manager for Credit. He took leadership of a team of fifty: streamlining the accounting contact centre over three years and reducing costs by six full time employees annually. He moved to Hillross as Client Services Manager, where the Financial Planning company looked after AMP's high net worth clients. Hal handled the merger of Arrive with PwC's Financial Planning arm. Hal joined Humblestorm as the Events Co-ordinator in 2007, where he focused on corporate, promotional event management. He progressed into a new role with Bedouin Group, as Sales Manager in 2009, where he focused on music festival planning and delivery as the founder member of Mannifest music festival. In 2011, Hal brought his senior management experience to the Cause Analytics team as Human Resource Manager where he programme managed resources for our analytics research team. Hal is a key team member of the Support Department within the Customer Division. Hal brings significant experience in delivering to both the Financial Services sector and the Third Sector. Hal brings a great empathy to why customers might be struggling and guides them to a solution. In December 2014 Hal took a five week ashtanga yoga teacher training at The Miami Life Center with Kino MacGreggor. Hal is currently producing a festival for 2000 people with learning disabilities in Lyndhurst called New Forest Spectrum, www.newforestspectrym.org . Hal has completed a parachute jump, flown a Robin stunt plane through a loop the loop and barrel roll, run a half marathon and sailed 3,500 nautical miles as one of three crew on a Bavaria 38.

The Festival of Faith and Writing began as an exploration of the communities made and served by religious writing. Over the years, it has become a community itself—a gathering that encourages the many kinds of exchange that religious writing seems to occasion. Our intent is to bring together the different constituencies of this writing—authors, publishers, readers, and academics—for conversation and celebration. In recent years, serious religious writing has gained an increasingly significant hearing in the literary world. Of course, not all such writing is done by Christians. Fortunately, the Reformed tradition balances strong confessionalism and a hearty confidence in the intellectual freedom afforded by grace. Calvin College is well suited to host a diverse array of writers, perspectives, and beliefs that allow for an earnest search for knowledge of God. In this balance of confessionalism and freedom, then, we welcome a wide range of faithful writing, makers, and readers. * We wish to locate, celebrate, and encourage serious imaginative writing by Christians of all denominations and communions. * We welcome the work of writers in other faith traditions who acknowledge or seek spiritual understanding, grace, or transcendence. Calvin College feels fortunate to host a Festival to which so many bring so much enthusiasm and personal warmth. This achievement owes much to the involvement of Calvin students, faculty, and staff, and the Festival hopes to retain this character. Here people come together for love of good writing, often because they have been invited by people like themselves.
