My tastes lean toward [COLOR=#0d0d0d][b]thematic adventure games[/b], [b]threat management games[/b][/COLOR] and [COLOR=#0d0d0d][b]deduction hidden movement games[/b][/COLOR]. Nowadays, I prefer [b]solo[/b] and [b]2-player coop[/b] games. Some things I avoid in board games: • Scripted narrative / Information-based discovery. • Victory Points win conditions. • Lack of meaningful player interaction. • Abstract mechanics that make no thematic sense. • Illustrations and content generated with AI. • Mandatory Apps. Some things I like in board games: • Emergent narrative / "Infinite" game systems. • Binary Epic Victory conditions (as opposed to meaningless VPs). • Direct conflict/confrontation. • Thematically clever mechanics that provide depth and immersion. • Human-made art and content. • Inserts-organizers that reduce setup time and fit sleeved and unsleeved cards. Board games can be an art form and not just mere entertainment. I like games that are more than simple pastimes and go beyond being fun. In fact, games don't need to be "fun", they need to be engaging, immersive, imaginative, emotional and evocative in meaningful ways that nourish our minds and souls. I am not a fan of Family and Euro games. I might enjoy them if played with people I like to spend my time with. But I considered that style of casual games just superfluous pastimes, not meaningful game experiences. In a way playing modern eurogames feels similar to playing Monopoly, only with more interesting gameplay. - - - - - • I am not a collector or a completionist. So, as a minimalist I only keep my favorite games, limiting myself to the ones that fit on my smallish game-shelf; the ones that are worth playing hundreds of times and spending my limited time on this planet.
