I am a 17 year old teaching myself to code with the hopes of being a good programmer in the future.

I've been playing boardgames almost all my life, I started during the powercuts of the 70s and apart from a few years where other things took precedence have been playing ever since. I took my first trip to Essen in 2005 and have been buying far to many games for nearly 20 years. These days my tastes have changed a bit (or is it the games?) a lot of the newer games leave me a bit underwhelmed. I prefer games with a lot of interaction with simple(ish) but deep game play and definitely not where everyone is just optimising their player boards. I'll play most things (at least once) but I do have a list of things that I generally avoid. This can make me sound like a grumpy old man (I'm not really) but here goes: Co-operative games, I just don't see the point. Deck builders - shuffle, yawn, shuffle. Heads down multiplayer solitaire optimisation puzzles. Kickstater's that are totally not playtested but have millions of plastic minis and 'great art'. Loads of cards with small text I can't read. Stupidly massive boxes. ...and there's many more :-) But there are always exceptions that break the rules. These days I do like a good train game like Age of Steam and Chicago Express, and when I can find the players 18xx. Thanks to the internet and BGG finding players is much easier than it used to be. I play with a group of great guys on a Monday night and we play pretty much anything, and they've been known to indulge my love of train games. In the New Year we're moving to Norfolk and our Monday night group is the only thing I'll be sad to leave behind, it's the people you play with as well as the games.
