GRADUAL Brian Baker has put this band together with fellow musicians interested in playing original material in an Aussie Rock style. Early indications of the sound point to The Church, Matt Finish, with other influences coming from The Police, Foo Fighters, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, XTC, Midnight Oil, The Divinyls and Peter Gabriel. Brian is supplying the songs from his vast back catalogue, both recorded and unrecorded, old and new, so the band has had a great quantity of fantastic songs to choose from to create a killer live set. Live, the band is a four piece, two guitars, bass and drums and we’re ready for our inaugural shows, there are plenty of people already expressing an interest in seeing the band live, particularly in light of David’s success in the field of recording and producing, Brian’s profile since performing with Eddie Rayner from Split Enz and Crowded House, and Darren’s en-ergy in promoting his own band, “Third Best Friend”. We promise max effort in getting people in the door using all our resources. GRADUAL will be recording their first EP late 2014 ready for release in the new year. The title track is called “For Love”, a song written by Brian in conjunction with Split Enz’s Eddie Rayner when they did some writing recently. This is a radio friendly rock/pop song that, along with David Carrs impeccable recording at his Rangemaster Studios, is already getting indie record companies interest up in the band. Background Brian Baker has been working in the Australian Music industry for some years, composing a movie soundtrack with Eddie Rayner, then releasing 2 CD’s and a brace of well received singles with Ed-die as The Makers. He’s also released 4 solo CD’s and 2 EP’s as well as short movie and docu-mentary soundtracks. His songwriting skills are well known with his song “Nothing Comes Easy”, featured on Graeme Connors last CD which featured Graeme’s favourite Australian songwriters and was called “Kindred Spirits”. Quite a long way from getting a co write with Chuck Hargreaves on the 2nd UnCanny X-Men’s record in the 80’s! Then of course there was that “No Maccas” song about the protest in Tecoma. GRADUAL is finally bringing Brian’s great songs to a wider audi-ence. David Carr is a highly regarded Melbourne engineer and producer. Working out of his Rangemaster Studios past productions include Skipping Girl Vinegar's 1st and 2nd releases, Kiss Chasy's 'Dark side' EP, Taxiride's 3rd Album, “Axiomatic” which delivered the hit 'Oh Yeah’. He’s also played guitars on Guy Sebastian’s recordings, and on a national tour with Deborah Conway. His latest claim to fame is mixing the Aria award winning, platinum selling record “Sharkmouth” by Russell Morris. He produces and mixes an amazing amount of fantastic talent and brings enormous recording and production experience to the band but it’s his exceptional guitar skills that will be knocking audiences over in GRADUAL. Steve Wells is a well known drummer on the Melbourne music scene. His work with original band FX and funk/soul outfit Congo Square is notable. He brings a rock solid rhythm head along with tasty jazz sophistication to GRADUAL that anchors the bands sound. Darren Trott is not only a hardworking, rocking bass player but a gifted singer/songwriter and gui-tarist in his own right. He first met David Carr when recording songs for his own band “Third Best Friend” and he even plays drums in the Who tribute act, “Who are you”! His style of bass playing pushes GRADUAL into Midnight Oil and Divinyls territory. About the name The name “GRADUAL” was inspired by the I Ching, an ancient Chinese book of Wisdom. Taken from Hexagram 53, one interpretation reads “The ability to learn from experience — one of human-ity’s greatest treasures — implies constant yet gradual progress. The combination of stillness within and determination without are the essence of this condition. Good things sometimes sprout quickly; the truly delightful take much longer, like a beautiful tree on a mountainside. A firmly rooted tree has a certain dignity. Because its roots penetrate deep beneath the soil, it is not easily toppled. Such steady development is what makes long-term progress possible.” So this band is GRADUAL, our experience and determination will see us progress. An exciting new rock act is on the scene.
