Started gaming in the late 60's with [GAMEID=1406] and grew up on Parker Bros. and Milton Bradley games (both have now been assimilated by HasBORG). Discovered wargaming thru Avalon Hill's [GAMEID=2259] and continued to pick up AH titles thru my College years. Due to a lack of opponents, I found myself reading the rules more then I played, so naturally I went the way of the PC, for about 15 years. Now I seldom game on the PC. A historical gamer at heart, I prefer political and economic games, and recently added coop games to the mix (such as [GAMEID=37111] and [GAMEID=38453]). I enjoy reading and analyzing rules, especially those based on history. When it comes to wargaming, I prefer the Grand Strategic scale, but don't mind tactical games, albeit with some sort of campaign system. I ran a [gameid=10501] campaign for 3½ years at the Canadian War Museum with the Ottawa Miniatures Gamer Club, and created a Campaign system using Prestige Points (PP's were exchanged to "purchase" planes and/or experienced pilots). This provided players with an incentive to complete their assigned mission. Currently, most of the folks I game with are "Euro" gamers, therefore I play these most of the time. Of the Euro games, [gameid=72125], [gameid=31483], [gameid=59], [GAMEID=58421] and [gameid=37111] are the ones I prefer, as they are easy to explain, have a clean system/mechanic, and play relatively fast. Now and again I can be found in my FLGS, explaining a new game and/or teaching a less recent game to new players. I also organize gaming events, and was a member of the organization committee of a local gaming Convention. For me, gaming is all about fun and enjoying the company of like minded individuals. A game is only as good as the people you play it with. [i]Type of games I enjoy[/i]: - Civilization - Simultaneous order selection - Economic simulation (speculation) - Air and submarine combat - Historically based - Monster games (4 hours +) [i]Type of games I dislike[/i]: - Player elimination (unless duration is under 15 minutes) - Next to no player control - Bash the Leader and/or Runaway Leader - Overly random, can be won by the player in last place due to a random event, etc. (unless the game lasts less than 10 minutes) - Brain burner / Analysis Paralysis (these are usually found in games with no random element whatsoever) [i]Component Preferences[/i]: - Miniatures or Wood blocks? [COLOR=#0000FF]Wood Blocks[/COLOR] - Paper money or coins? [COLOR=#0000FF]Coins[/COLOR] (wood, plastic, cardboard) - Color? [COLOR=#CC0000]Red[/COLOR] - Dice or Dice-less? [COLOR=#0000FF]Dice[/COLOR] (Although dice don't like me, I still enjoy a bit of chaos in my games)
