I like games with a lot of randomness. I like games that don't use dices. I like games that are simple. I like games with tons of rules and realism. I like games with heavy dose of tactic and strategies. I like games with strong themes. I like board games, I like role-playing games, I like computer and console games. You could just sum it all up and say that I like games. I can't quite descripe what kind of games I like. I'll have a blast playing completely random game like [i]Dungeon Quest[/i] or a rule-heavy monster like [i]ASL[/i], and I like games with very strong theme like [i]Arkham Horror[/i], [i]Fury of the Dracula[/i] or [i]Descent[/i], but the idea of playing an abstract strategy game like [i]Go[/i], [i]Chess[/i] or [i]Hive[/i] (Okay, so it does have a theme!) gets me all psyched up too. I don't really have a favorite game designer, but more than one of my top-ranked games have been designed by Reiner Knizia, so you could say I like his style. Most of the time. A bit of randomness but not enough so one could say that it's a deciding factor of the game. On the other hand, I do like the games oozing with theme (definately not Knizia-style!). So you could also count me in with Fantasy Flight Games fanboys. Bah. It's compilicated. One thing that I don't like is winning by large margin. Losing is okay. Don't get me wrong, I don't try to lose games or anything, and still end up as the winner pretty often (at least when playing games like [i]Nexus Ops[/i], [i]Blue Moon[/i] or [i]Dungeon Twister[/i]), it's just that I don't like to see my gaming buddys get down when losing big time, and that is why I hold back some times (Back when I still had [i]Doom - The Board Game[/i] and I always had to play the monster player, I never really went all out on the marines - they had it pretty rough anyway), and this, more often than not, costs me games, like when I didn't want to eliminate a player from a game of illuminati even when I easily could have, and because of that, the game ended in a draw. I really don't know where this comes from, since my usual co-players are not the kind of people who would go ballistic or sulk all evening for getting their behinds kicked, it's just that seeing my buddys enjoy the game is more important to me than winning - but if I'm not on the lead, well then, I'll fight bitterly for every last point! In the end of this ranting I'd just like to present the three key points in my gaming career: [b]2003 -[/b] Bought my "first" board game - A Game of Thrones [b]2005 -[/b] Found boardgamegeek.com after noticing it coming up frequently in discussions on a finnish board game site [b]2006 -[/b] Registered as a user to BGG after a year of stalking the forums and reviews [b]PS:[/b] I don't list game expansions in my "owned games" list - for example I have all the expansions to date for Arkham Horror - because I find it somehow anoying how they tip the balance of my game reviews. I can't really say that I have rated 15 games a "9" when in reality half of them are Blue Moon additions! ***** [b]Secret Santa 2008[/b]: Game received, merry Christmas Santa!
