Institutes are an exciting alternative rock band based in the West Midlands. Whilst only active since Summer 2013, the core of the band have previously performed and written together since their college days, creating a tremendous genuine rapport and synergy. A strong and innovative songwriting team has emerged, marrying savvy lyrical prowess with infectious toplines – set to a transcendent musical backdrop. Institutes believe passionately that the song comes first. This mantra is at the core of everything Institutes produce. Each tune has identity, an individual character and solid core of undeniable songwriting that oozes from every corner of the music. With a sound described as “kick-ass melodic indie-rock the likes of which have been gradually fizzling out since the Mushroom/Infectious glory days of the late 90′s/early noughties” (killing-moon.com), Institutes bring together influences from acts including Radiohead, The Joy Formidable, Rage Against The Machine, Massive Attack and Foals. These combine into a distinctive, epic sound. Experienced performers, Institutes recently completed their line up with a fresh and explosive new drummer, who has already helped them attract the most positive reviews of their career in his first few outings. A band unafraid of making noise, but also skilled at dialling it back for some very melodic and musically intricate moments, Institutes present a captivating stage presence, truly transcendent moments, and are a band that must be experienced live.
