Experienced hardware designer using discrete and programmable logic, analog, and a variety of microprocessors.  Software engineering skills using C and other modern programming languages Extensive involvement with military and medical products. **Education** Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester,MA  Bachelor of Science, Summa cum Laude HarvardUniversity, Cambridge, MA        Credit toward Master of Fine Arts in Photography Various Academic Institutions                   Over thirty CEUs in a variety of technical areas **Work Experience** **Waitek, Inc., Holden, MA**                                                                        1982 - present Owner and Lead Designer for my own electronic product design, consulting, and low volume manufacturing company.  In this capacity I have been solely responsible for, or a major contributor to hardware, software, and particularly system design for: StreetSmart Sign – Solar powered pedestrian crossing safety light which uses radio links and LED strobe lights to lower installation costs and increase safety (MSP430, C, C++, .NET, ZIGBEE) “TRIPLE TESTâ€TM – Prototype device of a circuit breaker tester to test the magnetic response of circuit breakers under short-circuit conditions and analyze home wiring (MSP430, C, high current SCRs) MorSonic Effluent Controller – a home and commercial septic effluent control system using ultrasonic level sensing and long-term data logging.  (MSP430 processors, IAR C) complete design responsibility. “D.U.M.P.†system - a truck-mounted monitoring and route management system for the refuse collection industry.  This 1980s vintage product used PCs reading hydraulic pressures and controlled by special-purpose keyboards and IR data links to monitor pick up operations and weigh trash.  The office section allowed route data input and delivered activity reports and billing information.  I was leader of a team of 6 who developed all hardware, software, keyboards, data links, and system concepts. (PC C, 8051 assembly language) “Beck-N-Call†- A restaurant communication system featuring the ability of the patron to signal needs to the waiter from the table by radio.  Developed all aspects of the product, packaging, battery charging system, radio integration, displays, and all software.  (8051 assembly language, AC power switching, radio link design) “ProTex†– A low-speed data scrambler using an 8051.  (8051 assembly language) Voice scrambler control software – designed and coded software to control voice encryption machines for military and police work.  (NSC800 assembly language) “WaterStar†- A machine for home or office use which produces potable water from the humidity in the air.  Redesigned this machine from a crude electro-mechanical prototype to its final form using a PIC microprocessor with sensors for temperature, humidity, liquid level, and Ultra Violet light.  Designed and built an advanced prototype using Peltier Effect (thermoelectric cooling) (PIC  C, MSP430 C) Wafer-handling robot – Developed the electronic hardware and control software for a 2-axis robot with a transfer station to place and remove wafers to and from a laser-trimming machine.  Controlled and measured motion and vacuum. (8085 PL-M) “DPS-2000†- An automated exposure system for UV emulsions used in silk-screening.  Motion control system which moves a telephone booth-sized UV projector up to twenty feet to a prearranged location for the correct image size, then auto-focuses the lens and automatically exposes the material.  Controlled motors, relays, and lamps from a PC.  The system also stores previous setups by negative number for re-printing.  (C, Visual Basic, PC) “30 channel light integrator†- microprocessor controlled UV light integrated dose monitor with 30 presettable levels.  Used to control UV exposure in a contact printing application.  A PIC processor is used with a 6 character display, UV sensor, EEPROM, and a proprietary keyboard.  Complete design responsibility including keyboard overlays and usability engineering. (PIC C) “REFLUPS†- a computer-controlled machine to produce measured, bagged, sterile IV fluids from local water sources for the military.  One of two lead programmers supervising a team of four to develop a software safety standard, a software development standard, specifications, code, and testing.  This system required code written to meet both military and FDA standards.  (8086  C) Cut-off machine - A semi-automated cutting machine to calculate and cut lengths of titanium tubing for custom-made bicycles.  Used a PC to control a stepper motor to position a cut-off saw based on various combinations of rider measurements.  (PC  C) Motor controller – designed the hardware and wrote the software for a DSP-based controller for three-phase electric motors from 300 to 3500 horsepower.  The controller allows user input to set various starting profiles and limits a ## Area of Expertise C Designed, structured, thoroughly documented professional code since 1980  Hardware design MSP430 PIC 8051 Power supplies, battery charging.
