LINEAGE is an exciting NEW ensemble lead by three of the UK’s finest jazz musicians. They were responsible in part for the soundtrack music to the acclaimed movie adaptation of the Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie book Half Of A Yellow Sun, directed by Biyi Bandele and starring the Oscar nominated actors, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, which tells the story of the Biafran War in Nigeria during the late 60's and early 70's. This was followed by a sold out London debut performance at the historical and prestigious Ronnie Scott's Jazz club in Soho. They have since been nominated for a MOBO Award, one of UK's music industry's most recognised awards for Music Of Black Origin in the “Best Jazz Act" category. We are in a crucial time of improvised jazz music. This unique tradition is an African American tradition born of the blues. Many of the innovators of the music are no longer with us and there have been so many new styles of the music emerging that the roots are often forgotten or at best brushed over. LINEAGE as a band and concept address this imbalance and put to the front the fundamental concepts of swing and integrity. The music embraces the masters of the music and adds to this rich tradition. The band also places a priority on education and incorporates this as an active part of their work. The band has worked & performed with many of the masters of jazz – some that have passed and some that are still with us and actively performing including; Stanley Turrentine, Freddie Hubbard, Betty Carter, Jack DeJohnette, Abdullah Ibrahim, Airto Moreira, Gary Bartz, Billy Higgins and Andrew Hill, to name but a few. LINEAGE’s band members are great composers and bandleaders in their own right. Their performances feature music from their own pen and they also perform compositions from some of the masters that have had an influence on them. This exciting NEW band will be shortly going into the studio to record their debut album. LINEAGE will also do special concerts that bring the Masters directly onto the stage with them as special featured guests! Band Members: Byron Wallen (Trumpet/Flugel Horn) – An exponent of varieties of music from around the world and firmly rooted in the Jazz tradition. He has worked with the late Sam Rivers, Andrew Hill, McCoy Tyner, Airto Moreira and Jack Dejohnette. Trevor Watkis (Piano) - A Berklee College Alumni, has spent time travelling between London and NYC, has high respect for all the piano masters and has performed with the late Stanley Turrentine, Courtney Pine, Gary Bartz and Jean Toussaint. Tony Kofi (Alto & Soprano Saxes) – Winner of various awards, has been heard on the national and international concert and club stages with people like Abdullah Ibrahim, David Murray, Macy Gray, and The Julian Joseph Big band. With – Daniel Casimir (Bass) and Rod Youngs (Drums)

Lineage is a Los angeles based female fronted band. This high energetic original modern rock band first got together on Halloween of 2006 and have been playing shows in the Los angeles area ever since. They have played shows such as Pierce college's Music Showcase to clubs such as the Wiskey.
