Who is Louis van Gaal? Louis van gaal was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on 8th August 1951. He played as a midfielder and became one of the most respected football coaches of his generation, managing Ajax, 8Xoso ,Barcelona, AZ Alkmaar and Bayern Munich amongst others before joining Manchester United in 2014. However, Louis van gaal revealed on Monday that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and that the disease would be treated by surgery in the next week or two. Early career After a successful playing career, Van gaal spent two years as an assistant coach at Ajax under head coach Leo Beehacker. In 1990, he took up his first head coaching job at Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam. He led them to a fifth-place finish and UEFA Cup qualification in his first season. Management style At one point in his life, Van Gall had an 8xoso management style. This means that he tended to be extreme and innovative in every way possible. He wanted control over everything, he wanted to dictate every situation, and he didn’t want anyone else to be involved at all. Ultimately, though, this was his downfall; players began to resent him and everyone else around him became annoyed with his overall demeanor. External links The Guardian, BBC
