21/4/02: I do a lot of travelling, and while I'm usually averse to getting rid of books (except the truly appalling ones), I always end up leaving a trail of them behind me when I'm on the road. I thought it might be interesting to see where some of those books end up. To make a start, I've picked out six pretty good ones just to leave around town here.

My rating system: A half star usually means that the rating really is half a star above this (so 3 1/2 stars would theoretically be a 4 star rating) but something just kept annoying the **** out of me. A good example for this would be the otherwise amazing (!) new Batman Movies - especially with the Joker - who only get - a half star because of the all-too normal treatment of female characters as the love interest, whether it be a demure and submissive one or a 'vixen' like Poison Ivy. *sigh* 1 Star: Abyssmal writing/blatant [-ism] of one kind or another, cardboard characters, no plot except for 'explosions!!!'... Basically stuff that I never want to watch again. 2 Stars: Usually comedies or Disney movies. Good enough for background noise, but not really something your mind can actually focus on and work with. Basic stuff. 3 Stars: Most movies, really. Definitely watchable with okay plots, characters a.s.o. Sometimes actually good action or comedy movies will get 3 stars as well. Basically, this is the baseline for movies for me :) 4 Stars: Exceptional one way or another, be it a great (unexpected or really well pulled off) plot twist or something that just gets me emotionally - not talking about Disney-style cheap emotional tricks though. 5 Stars: A movie that had everything and more. At least one awesome character, no blatant [-isms] that constantly pulled me out of what was going on on-screen and a nice plot. Perfect.
