As of May 28, 2023, I've decided to hide my fics in response to several ongoing conversations about how the OTW conducts itself. They include: AO3’s decision to validate AI-generated works, in the same post they acknowledge that process is dependent on theft AO3 as a facet of fandom’s racism; and as an active perpetrator The harm AO3’s mismanagement inflicts on its own volunteers, especially in regards to its handling of CSEM Racism in fandom has greatly, repeatedly affected me. This is probably a futile gesture, but, honestly, I'm not sure what more I can say. So goes the whole system: feeling unheard, being unheard, losing your voice between the pain and self-doubt, it being lost when the time comes to speak again. I hope this in some way captures the simultaneous feeling of invisibility and passive benefit from my contributions that comes with being a fan of color. It's also become undeniable that my experience with racism is not the first and last weak point; it's just one grotesque symptom among many. While AO3 is not the end-all, be-all battle field of fandom ideology, its role shouldn't be underplayed or dismissed. I'm working on mirroring all my works there, but I don't see it being a particularly speedy process.
