I moved to Costa Rica when I was four, where I learned Spanish. After one year, we moved to Guatemala and lived there for thirteen years in a very remote Mayan indian village called San Miguel Acatán--no electricity, no running water, and not even a written language. What I did have was photo subjects galore, lots of time, and a pile of old camera equipment. I've had lots of hobbies over the years (flying airplanes and helicopters, motorcycles, fine carpentry, and so on), but the only constant has been photography. I typically take six foreign photo excursions every year, usually to countries I've never visited. Capturing images, along with everything that goes into doing it artfully, speaks to my soul. It's so immersive that it crowds all the rest of life out, which is how I relax. I don't know if you'll enjoy any of these images, but I hope one or two of them make you smile or remind you fondly of an image in your own head. Or, maybe one of them will help you reconnect with life (or death) in an authentic, real way. My favorite cameras to date: Olympus OM-4T, Mamiya 7, Canon 1Ds Mark II, Canon 1D-X, Canon EOS M, Leica M9, Leica M Monochrom,, Lytro, Gigapan Epic PRO, and the inevitably fun GoPro 4. My pocket camera is a Leica D-LUX 6 or the Canon N. I've had lots of hobbies over the years (flying airplanes and helicopters, motorcycles, fine woodworking, and so on), but the only constant has been photography. I typically take six foreign photo excursions every year to countries I've never visited, capturing images, mainly. But I become thoroughly immersed in everything that goes into doing it artfully and speaks to my soul. It's so immersive that it crowds all the rest of life out, which seems to be the only way I can relax. My retake store got started from a mix of passion and necessity. I've always loved creating digital art—whether it’s branding, illustrations, or templates. I uploaded a few templates and illustrations on platforms like Etsy, and to my surprise, people really connected with my style. From there, I expanded to my own website and added more custom offerings, like branding kits and digital downloads for content creators. The story is pretty simple: I wanted to make high-quality, accessible designs that help people stand out, especially creatives and entrepreneurs. It’s grown into something I’m really proud of, and I’m constantly inspired by how people use the designs in their own projects. What about you?
