This is my collection of photos of tiles, especially Art Nouveau tiles. If not declared otherwise they are all amateur photographs taken by myself. Whenever possible I try to find references This is not always possible. I just take pictures and don`t possess any of the tiles and don&#x27;t see the marked backsides. Sometimes I don`t even manage to access the actual room where I find them and have to take a pictures through the door glass. TILES is a progressive hard rock band from Detroit, Michigan featuring Mark Evans (drums), Chris Herin (guitar), Paul Rarick (vocals), and Jeff Whittle (bass). The band formed in 1993 and is signed to Inside Out Music in North America and Europe. Over the years TILES has developed a style that blends the adventure of progressive rock with an aggressive hard rock edge. Along with introspective & thought-provoking lyrics TILES continues to cultivate a sound that rewards the attentive music enthusiast. Throughout their 20-year history TILES has garnered praise from several musical icons: (1) Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull calls TILES "maturing well-formed music-makers for the new age of inventive guitar-based rock" and hails 'Fly Paper' as "Tiles best CD yet! Sharp, precise vocals tell tales and set scenes, thundering drums and bass lines connect weaving melodies. Strong stuff..." (2) Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy enthusiastically endorsed TILES' 3rd release 'Presents Of Mind:' "I love this CD. The whole disc is full of great musicianship and great songwriting with catchy hooks." (3) Upon hearing the TILES demo sessions Gene Simmons of KISS said: "I was totally blown away. Amazing..." and proceeded to sign the band to a Simmons Records production deal. Currently, TILES is commemorating their 20th anniversary with their first official live recordings that also serve as career retrospectives. The first installment, "Off the Floor 01" was released September 2012 and "Off the Floor 02" was released June 2014. TILES delivers "live in the studio" performances offering new perspectives on standout tracks from each of the band's five studio recordings. Complete with several new interludes and adventurous extended jams, the "Off the Floor" project gives the listener more than a carbon copy of the studio versions with noted producer Terry Brown (Rush) mixing the music with a powerful organic sound. "Off the Floor volumes 1 & 2" provide a fresh look at some old songs, add a few new things, and give TILES fans something to tide them over until the next studio release appears. "Off the Floor 02" also includes a bonus disc of selected songs from the band's 2005 appearance at ROSfest and two videos from the “Off the Floor” sessions. Released in 2008 "Fly Paper" is the fifth & most recent studio recording from TILES. Noted producer Terry Brown (Rush) fashioned a polished-yet-natural sonic picture that instantly engages the listener. "Fly Paper" finds TILES embracing a renewed sense of experimentation to craft a collection of songs featuring the intricacies of progressive rock blended with deep rhythmic grooves and dense arrangements. Hugh Syme's artwork captures the CD's concept of 'vulnerability' with a simple-yet-disquieting paper airplane floating over a city skyline. "Fly Paper" features an impressive roster of special guests including Alex Lifeson (Rush). TILES released their fourth CD "Window Dressing" in the summer of 2004. Produced, engineered and mixed by Terry Brown, "Window Dressing" received high marks worldwide for its experimental blend of epic song cycles and dark garage rock aesthetics and was nominated for a 2005 Detroit Music Award. The CD features the design and artwork of award winning artist Hugh Syme and was issued with a bonus live bootleg CD from the band's 1999 European tour with Dream Theater. TILES' third CD, "Presents of Mind" was released worldwide in the summer of 1999. Propelled by positive reviews, airplay, and word-of-mouth, "Presents of Mind" solidified the band's place in the progressive underground and generated an invitation from Dream Theater to open their November 1999 European tour. Drummer Mike Portnoy offered his endorsement: "I love this CD! The entire disc is full of great musicianship and great songwriting with catchy hooks." TILES followed their debut with "Fence the Clear" in 1997, which saw the band bringing in noted producer Terry Brown during the final mixing stage. The disc was again well-received by fans and reviews were positive with "Fence the Clear" scoring 94/100 in Aardschok (Holland); 5/6 in SCREAM (Norway); earning HM Magazine's "Pick of the Litter" award (US); and culminating with the Detroit Free Press naming TILES "Detroit's leading progressive rock band." TILES first reached the international music scene in the summer of 1995 when Polydor released "tiles" throughout Europe on their Dream Circle label. Sales were strong with the help of excellent reviews from Aardschok (91/100), SCREAM (6/6) and Rock Hard (Germany) (8/10) among others. Teichiku Records revised the artwork and released the disc in Japan where it reached #47 in the BURRN! Magazine charts. Tiles endorses Mesa/Boogie Amplification, Elixir Strings, Aquarian Drumheads, Eden Electronics, and Ken Smith Basses & Strings.
