My Funny Collection

As a child and teenager, I spent many hours listening to elders speak of the importance of keeping our culture and traditions alive. I help preserve our traditions by capturing the beauty and resilience of the indigenous people. My current body of work documents ceremonies, dances, and the traditional regalia of Southwest and Pacific Northwest Native Americans that are preserving traditions that have been passed down for generations. I feel so proud, honored and inspired when photographing Native American peoples that represent their culture in positive and powerful way. When I photograph my Native subjects it is a hybrid style of documentary, and fine art. Our spiritual history and beliefs comes from appreciating the land and its beauty, so my images will reflect the beauty and the strength it has taken to survive. As a photographer and a Tlingit/Cherokee Native American, I am dedicated to share with the world, images of the inspiring Native leaders and the eager young who are the next generation to pass on the traditions and the richness of our sacred ancestral wisdom. Through my images I hope you can travel back in time. When the First American inhabitants walked the land with generosity, respect and pride, when you could come over a sweeping hill in the planes and see teepees and horses, too many to count and when the long houses and villages were thriving and pulsing like a beating drum. These whispers of an ancient world are still the true spirit of us living in this modern world. This is what I strive to convey in my images.
