One day I was reading the sports page in a local newspaper. I had an interest in sports from a very early age, so I usually hit the headlines on the front page, and then went straight for the sports pages. The images caught my eye. I knew what I wanted to see in a sports photo. As I was parusing the photos, I thought to myself that I could do better. My first SLR was a Mamiya Sekor. My father built a darkroom in a small half-bath in the basement. I loved the technology involved, and watching the image appear before my eyes in the developer bath. When I went to college, photography took a backseat. I was heavily involved with tennis and schoolwork. It wasn’t until I had children, after graduate school, that photography came back to me. By this time, digital photography was taking hold. The first digital cameras were not very good. But, since my darkroom was long gone, I dug into working with my images on the computer. My interest remained in shooting sports, but landscape and portrait photography became more of a “focus.” It was helpful to learn how to use the equipment in the fast-paced high school, college and professional sporting environment. This taught me how to work in difficult lighting situations. Photographer’s Statement Promoting youth and young adult sports is important to me. I want to see the minor sports such as tennis and soccer get the recognition it deserves. I love seeing young people focus their energies into a sport and trying there very hardest to perform and become better. That discipline transcends most other areas of life. Landscape and portrait photography display Creation in ways that can be appreciated and remembered long after the moment has passed. Work Experience My work has been published in several newspapers in Mississippi and Alabama. I have won several photojournalism awards for sports photography. Families of high school, college and professional athletes have enjoyed and purchased my photographs. Living on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay gives me plenty of landscape opportunities. One of my favorite subjects is Rockbridge Trout Ranch in Rockbridge, Missouri. I go there as often as I can. I am experienced with Photoshop, Lightroom, Nik Software, Photo Mechanic, and Apple computers. I shoot with Canon equipment.
