Zelig are a 5-piece, alternative indie band from Wolverhampton, West Midlands. Their eclectic sound has been developed from a wide range of inspiration, and they pride themselves on their versatility: Being equally at home as a 5-peice, acoustic, rag-bag act as well as a more conventional 5-peice, fully percussive, electric one. Zelig started out in 2007 as a 4-piece, and promoted their début home recording Girl/Boy by playing in various venues across the UK, including venues in London, Derby and Birmingham, as well as regularly appearing at the renowned Katie Fitzgerald's in Stourbridge. Such performances resulted in Zelig taking the stage at The Carling Academy in Birmingham to open for The Fratellis during their 2008 tour. Zelig also made an appearance on local radio station WCR on which they performed 3 acoustic tracks live on air. 2009 saw Zelig write and record new material which resulted in 2 EPs: Girl EP and Boy EP. One focused on acoustic recordings and the other electric, in order to give a more comprehensive representation of their continuing versatile live shows. After recording their first vérité style video, Zelig took their live show on the road during the summer of 2009 for a week-long tour of the south coast. Great performances were greeted by fantastic receptions and positive feedback at the following venues - The Miller, London Bridge; The Talking Heads, Southampton; The Angel Inn, Exeter and The Coach House, Paignton. Zelig ended the year with more fantastic live shows included sets at the highly regarding stomping ground of ex-Wonder Stuff supremo Miles Hunt - The Horseshoe Inn; Jools Holland's very own Jam House in Birmingham; and new venue Loose Lucees in Wolverhampton, which was reviewed in Ryan's Gig Guide by Mel Flavell: "Zelig are another Wolves band I’ve had designs on for a while, and their set was seriously pant wetting stuff. They opened for the Fratellis recently in Birmingham and if they were even half as good then as they were on this more humble stage, then I should imagine it will be the first of many prestigious support slots. Their impactual start grabbed the attention of the whole room, and the impact was resolute to the end. I especially enjoyed their use of percussion and their wow-factor stage show, which included crowd favourite ‘Ultimatum’, possibly showing off their confidence in its best light. They were consistent, yet with a vast range of influences creeping out in their craft. Zelig are strong as a group, showing an established mutual love of what they did. Put simply, a stunning set. I now wish I had not left it so long to experience them first hand." © Aeriel Flavell 2009 Ryan's Gig Guide January 2010 2010 brought with it new member Neil Parkes, and a drive for new material and bigger gigs. Zelig found themselves a new home and began writing and rehearsing a selection of new tunes. This new tranche of compositions was recorded and performed live in some fantastic support slots for signed artists such as InMe, Jesse Malin and Chris Helme (ex-Seahorses). At the turn of 2011, Zelig revealed their artistic and collective identity in the form of Lady Zelig, who can be found on the new CD artwork and website. Zelig then packaged and compiled their new tracks with the best of their existing back catalogue to create their 2011 album Sartor Resartus. This has been promoted and sold at gigs in 2011 including Actress & Bishop, Sunflower Lounge, The Jam House, OakFest and the very successful Birmingham Artsfest. Towards the end of 2011 and into 2012, Zelig wrote and recorded another collection of new tracks. These tracks are currently being mixed and mastered and will be taken on the road during the summer. In the interim, Zelig have developed their live show and are now happy to perform a suitably eclectic and unique assortment of covers as part of a night-long acoustic live show.
